John Edwards the scumbag

by Jay on May 25, 2011

On my way to work this morning, I heard that John Edwards might be facing charges for covering up his affair using campaign funds.  My initial thoughts were, couldn’t happen to more of a sleaze-ball.

He is a complete piece of crap that never deserved the devotion given to him by his late wife, Elizabeth Edwards.  I’m happy that as her life was coming to an end, that she had the strength to leave him and live her final days on this earth with the children that she so loved and raised.

Although it is easy to label Edwards as what he is, a Class-A Dirt Bag, he is not being charged with the affair.  We must remember that he broke the law and spent so much of his campaign money donated by the “little guy” that believed in him and for what he stood.

What I don’t understand is this….he is a lawyer and an intelligent human being…did he think that in politics that would never catch up with him?

There are few people that I know that are more tolerant of the rights of people to worship in the way in which they chose than me, but this story really pisses me off.  Pardon the language.  But this is crazy!

Apparently this church in Kansas believes that God is punishing Americans for their acceptance of the rights of homosexuals by allowing horrific events to befall our country.

The lead lunatic, Rev. Fred Phelps (and I use the word Reverend in the loosest sense of the word), has led protests all over the United States at public events to be seen by the media.

These vermin appeared at the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards, as well as other high publicity events.

Their new venue is the funerals and vigils of the victims of the shooting in Phoenix Arizona.  According to the Christian Science Monitor, the public has a message and plan of their own.

Tucson residents also sprang into action when news of the planned protests spread. Many intend to meet the picketers with human barricades and some say they will wear oversize “angel wings” to shield mourners from seeing the protesters along the funeral routes.

Congratulations to the citizens of Arizona for protecting the rights of these individuals to morn in a dignified fashion.  And thanks to Governor Brewer and legislators for passing a law to protect these poor people.

To the members of this “church”…go away!  It is your right to believe what you want and to be as bigoted as you choose, but leave these people to mourn the loss of their loved ones.

Everyone loves the tax man

by Jay on January 7, 2011

I’ve always believed that one of the worst jobs in our country would be an agent for the IRS.  You never hear stories of people looking forward to an audit or of people being happy to receive correspondence from the Internal Revenue Service.

One can go all the way back to biblical times to read stories about these “evil people” and the problems that they cause.

When I noticed the article from the Associated Press titled, “Curses! Romania’s witches forced to pay income tax,” I had to click the link.

Everyone curses the tax man, but Romanian witches angry about having to pay up for the first time hurled poisonous mandrake into the Danube River on Thursday to cast spells on the president and government.

The funny point of the article states that:

But not every witch threatened fire and brimstone.

“This law is very good,” said Mihaela Minca, sister of Melissa. “It means that our magic gifts are recognized and I can open my own practice.”

I think this shows us that there are two sides to every story.

Oh, I could just count the reasons that I became disillusioned with the Republican party, but that can be for another post on another day. Although I decided to become a democrat after many years as a staunch conservative, my new party often times isn’t much better on issues that are important to me.

An issue that is of great importance to me, and to the lives of all of us, is gender equality.  I feel like too many democrats pay lip service to this issue, but their actions many times do not back up their public posturing.  In my mind, there is a great divide between saying that you support an issue and vote “yes” on a bill, than truly getting into the trenches and fighting the real battles that affect women on a daily basis.

I could go on about the democrats, but this post is more about my old friends, the republicans.  One charge that cannot be levied against them is one of inconsistency.  According to the Raw Story, the G.O.P. voted in lock-step against the Paycheck Fairness Act.  100%, really?

Even the so called liberal wing of the party, like Senators Snowe and Collins deemed the bill unworthy.

Collins argued that the bill would place undue burden on small business, and “impose increased costs and restrictions on small businesses in an already difficult economic climate.”

Congratulations GOP.  I hope you have sent even more women, and particularly younger women, running away from your party.

Arizona’s Illegal Immigration Bill

by Jay on May 5, 2010

It sure has been the hot topic as of late, hasn’t it?  Today I read that two cities in Arizona are suing to block the law from being enforced.  Essentially, they are claiming that this is an unfunded mandate.  After all, isn’t immigration law to be left to the federal government?

Quite frankly, it is getting a little tiresome turning on CNN and seeing story after story on this topic.  By no means am I stating that this is not of the utmost importance, but what else is going on in the world these days?

This post won’t be an extensive look into why I do not support this bill, or even my beliefs on immigration law.  Mainly I have a couple of thoughts for us to ponder:

  1. I do believe that we should tighten our border security along both the border with Mexico AND the border with Canada.  It is not, however, my contention that this must be done to keep illegals out, rather it is of paramount importance in terms of fighting terrorism.  If day after day people are coming across our borders, what is to stop a Muslim extremist from doing the same?
  2. If people are so upset about illegal immigration, then stop partaking of the services provided by these people.  Put your money where your mouth is.  Stop eating in restaurants where illegal immigrants are hired.  Don’t hire someone to do construction work because it is cheaper and then look the other way when it is being staffed by illegal immigrants.  Stop using all of these services and patronizing all of these businesses and then tell me that things are better.
  3. Does it not bother people that for the simple fact that our ancestors came illegally to this country to begin with, we are given the privileged of living here?  Why punish a poor child in Mexico from attempting to have a better life just because circumstances dictated that he/she was born to parents living in Mexico.
  4. How about punishing the businesses that hire illegal immigrants?  Would that not stop people from coming here if there were no employers that would hire them?  Of course, this would just make the prices of about everything that you buy and consume more expensive.  But that’s the price you will have to pay.

There are so many reasons why I do not support our immigration enforcement efforts.  I’m so tired of hearing that they are taxing our welfare systems.  How?  Emergency rooms?  They can’t get welfare.

These people simply want to come to the United States in search of a better opportunity for their families.  If you were in their situation, would you not do the same?  Would you let your children starve while you look for work day after day?  I hope not!
